"Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
The first three words "Come to Me", beautifully describes what is essential for your rest. The only One who is able to bestow what you so desperately need, first invites & beckons you to come to Him. There is an intimacy to this command of abandonment. Jesus Christ knows every aspect & impact of your burdens. He knows the extent & depth of your weariness. It is in this state of weakness and vulnerability, your God beckons you to come to Him. It's the first step to seeing His promise unfold, His promise of rest.
But take notice you have a role to play in this rest. He instructs you to 'take His yoke' upon you & to learn. Resting in the loving arms of God is not a sedentary lifestyle, rather it is a call to action.
The word "yoke" describes something that unites two elements to work as one unit. It joins two people to move and work together as one. To take the yoke of Jesus means you move with Him, work with Him, united in Him, doing the will of the Father.
When we begin to see our burdens & pain as the entry point for intimacy with the Lord, then the struggles we face turn into opportunity to walk in step with Him, to experience His presence, power, love and grace. But we must first...Come to Him. It takes action on our part. Finding rest for our souls is a holy occupation.
