The heart, mind, soul, body, and spirit are all intricately connected—woven together in a way that reflects God’s intentional and beautiful design. Scripture makes it clear that each part of us is affected by sin and brokenness, and yet, each part is also touched by God’s healing and restoration.

Today, psychology and science are beginning to echo what God’s Word has always shown: we are whole beings, not separate systems. As Dr. Gabor Maté puts it, “The mind and body are inseparable... the emotional apparatus in the brain, the immune system, the hormonal system, and the nervous system are not even separate systems that are connected—they are one unit. Different manifestations of the same unit.”

This insight is key to understanding how circumstances, relationships, stress, and even our thoughts can affect every part of us. Emotional wounds can show up in the body. Physical illness can impact our mental and spiritual well-being. We truly are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139).
